My Goals for 2016

I thought this was a particularly poignant quote as goal setting and working towards achieving those goals we all have in life: be it physical, monetary, relationship, emotional etc all require a change in our patterns of thought. It's about mind over matter to make a change.

I saw this post at the start of January on Ursaula Walsh of Mom Fitness Diary's Instagram and I just thought it was a fantastic idea to break your goals up into different sections that affect different aspects of your life.

What better way to declare your intention to the Universe than to write a blog post detailing your goals for the year? If that's not accountability than I don't know what is. Here goes!

The three things I want to achieve this year are...

1. Get my full driving licence - there is only so long you can drive around on a provisional for!
2. Graduate from my degree in Media Management from DCU ( hopefully with a 2.1!)
3. Live away from home even if it's only for a few months.

The top three places I want to visit...

Abroad

1. Switzerland - to see old friends I haven't seen in years
2. Brussels - booked flights this evening!
3. Amsterdam - in planning mode

In Ireland

1. Belfast
2. The Museum of Modern Art
3. An extensive list of places recommended by Lovin' Dublin

My three fitness goals...

1. Run a 5K straight through
2. Start practicing yoga and or Pilates weekly.
3. Complete some sort of physical challenge ie climb a mountain or complete an obstacle course

My three bad habits to get rid of

1. Stop feeling inadequate - imposter syndrome pops its head up all the time especially when I get invited to fantastic lovely blog events - I often feel out of place, I need to just enjoy the moment!

2. My disorganisation - I live in a chaotic mess half the time as I am quite an untidy person and it causes unnecessary stress in my life especially in my final year of college when I can never find things!

3. Learn to switch off and put down the screen before sleepy time.

Those are my own personal goals for 2016,  it's important to start with baby steps I guess and to figure out how you will achieve those goals. For example for running a 5K, I think I'll most likely start with the couch to 5k app as there is no way I am legging it out my door for a full no stopping to walk 5K run tomorrow morning. Baby steps and hopefully with a little push everything will fall into place.

What are your goals for 2016? Do you think this is a good way of setting yourself personal goals?
Let me know in the comments below.

What I'm Watching...

If you're looking for something to watch this weekend be it on Netflix or through other nefarious and questionable screening methods look no further as I've kindly compiled a list of what I'm loving lately.

Broad City is a recent discovery of mine and I cannot get enough of it. The third season is back on February 17 and I'm one and a half seasons in after less than a week already. It's super easy to watch, episodes are only 21 minutes long so you can quite easily get through an entire season in one very chill weekend. It's about two twenty something friends living in New York and all sorts of vaguely mortifying and hilarious things happen to them. The script is spot on and they are two girls that are very easily identified with. I think every girl who watches this will want a friendship like Abbie's and Ilana's...we're talking no holds barred here.

Peaky Blinders is another prime example of a season that I was absolutely bet into over the last few weeks. You can view this on Netflix and while the subject matter may be a little intense for Netflix and chill purposes it is a must watch. It's set in 1920s England, predominantly Birmingham and focuses on illegal bookmaking, IRA tensions and a lot of violence with a bizarre love triangle thrown in. Seriously it might sound a bit random but its definitely worth the watch and for every girl who loves a bad boy Cillian Murphy who plays Tommy is perfect for you. Episodes are an hour long but there are only six episodes in each season so twelve hours of viewing is certainly a possibility over the weekend if you are up to not much else or simply procrastinating from an assignment. Peaky Blinders season 3 has commenced filming and is rumoured to be back on screen sometime in mid to late 2016.

So kick back and relax and take your pick - whether you want a laugh or something a little bit more serious there are two possibilities up there for you.

Any Netflix or otherwise recommendations for me leave them below...

50 Random Questions and Answers about Me

Hi guys and gals, I have previously answered the 50 questions blogger tag way back when I started my lil ol' blog in 2014. I thought it wild be fun to to these again and to give you all more insight into me as a person so we can all get to know each other a little bit better! Sometimes I feel you never really know the person behind the blog so this is one way to get started.

1: What are you wearing?

Considering as I write this it is almost midnight I am in my usual attire of Penney's Pjs. I swear to god if I could live my day to day life in pjs I actually would. These ones are light blue and grey and say "Somewhere over the rainbow, the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true." I have my fluffy socks, and a house coat / dressing gown on. What do you call it? There seems to be quite a divide over whether it should be known as a house coat or not, let me know what you call it!

2: Ever been in love?

I have...

3: Ever had a terrible breakup?

Yes. The worst break ups are when you still love the person for who they are but you know that you cannot go on being in a relationship and are no longer in love with them as cliche as it may sound. Love can be blind at times but when you come through the other side and realise that there is so much more to love and life than you previously thought you will know you made the right decision.

4: How tall are you?

5 foot 6.

5: How much do you weigh?

Too much haha. One of my New Years resolutions is to reduce my BMI and improve my overall fitness. I think fitness plays a huge part in our mental health and overall well being so I will be really focusing on taking care of myself in that aspect this year.

6: Any tattoos?

No. I have plenty of ideas, but I have a few goals I would like to achieve first and then consider marking them in an offbeat way with a tattoo.

7: Any piercings?

I have my ears pierced, lobes and cartilage. I also had my belly button pierced twice but my body kept rejecting it so I had to let it close over.

8: OTP?

One true pairing I heard this meant... The first couple that popped into my mind were Noah and Allie from the Notebook. Jesus Christ the last scene really gets me in the feels...

*PEAKY BLINDERS SPOILER ALERT*

But my new favourite couple have to be Tommy and Grace in Peaky Blinders, it's a series on Netflix set in Birmingham in the 1920s. They aren't really a couple but I just love them and want them to be together. Ok, sorry if I just ruined the show.

9: Favorite Show?

Peaky Blinders - it takes me a while to really get into a series. Narcos was brilliant on Netflix as well... Law and order SVU is an all time fave and a throwback to when I wanted to be a guard (policewoman for any non Irish) and Gordon Ramseys kitchen nightmares is always a good watch and kind of disgusting too!

10: Favorite bands?

Florence and the Machine are technically a band so I will choose them. She is just incredible and I'm still kicking myself that I didn't get a ticket to go see her when she played in Dublin. I'm really into Drake, Fetty Wap and the Weeknd moreso than bands though?

11: Something you miss?

I miss my dog Buddy. We had to give him up for adoption when we moved house and I really regret that still. He was like a baby in our family.

12: Favorite song?

That's a hard one... I love the song Keep your head up by Ben Howard, he's a fantastic singer songwriter.

13: How old are you?

I'm 22!! * Cue Taylor Swift...* I keep thinking its 5 years until I'm 25... But Nope, I'll be 27! This is scary, I feel like I've so much to accomplish. But then again when I was 20 I thought 30 was old, and now I realise it most definitely isn't.

14: Zodiac sign?

I am a Sagittaurius, so I am quite a fiery person. I love to be centre of the attention but at the same time I am very observant, thoughtful and I'm also ambitious.

15: Quality you look for in a partner?

Ambition, drive to succeed - they have to be someone who is making something happen. Intelligence, kindness, generosity and a good sense of humour is important. I don't like people who take themselves too seriously either.

16: Favorite Quote?

Strive for progress not perfection.

17: Favorite actor?

Saoirse Ronan at the moment. Go on the Irish!

18: Favorite color?

"My wardrobe is jet black." Black. You'll understand if you ever work in retail/beauty. It's just so handy and easy to put on and still look put together and elegant. It can make you sleek or edgy depending on how you accessorise. It is so versatile. Literally every girl needs a pair of well fitting black skinny jeans, a nice cami top, a leather jacket, a little black dress and a good pair of boots in her life and she is set for every occasion.

19: Loud music or soft?

Loud music gets me pumped up for the gym or to go out. I mostly listen to loud music but if I want to chill / relax or am feeling in a certain mood I switch on my 8tracks and away we go with the chill vibes.

20: Where do you go when you’re sad?

Shopping! Retail therapy is often a cure for me... Or try and spend some time with my mam or dad.

21: How long does it take you to shower?

15 minutes. I don't know how people take so long in the shower.

22: How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

I get up an hour before I have to leave for college and that includes eating breakfast so I would say 40 minutes.

23: Ever been in a physical fight?

Haha, I got slapped across the face once in third year in school. It was quite hilarious thinking back on it. It was such a stupid fight.

24: Turn on?

Good manners and smelling nice... Someone who puts you at ease and is totally open and upfront.

T25: Turn off?

Bad hygiene! Ugh...need I say more? Rude people. Lack of intelligence.

26: The reason I joined Blogspot?

I always have had a passion for writing and I wanted a creative outlet while I was studying journalism in college. It quickly developed into my most favourite hobby (next to shopping).

27: Fears?

Being alone! I don't want to grow old alone but that's way off in the future. Something bad happening to someone I love is also high on my list of fears. I also have a phobia of needles and any sort of bodily medical issue  - the thought of it makes me short of breath and faint. I could never be a nurse!

28: Last thing that made you cry?

Oh god it was probably something stupid. I get very sensitive when it's that time of the month.

29: Last time you said you loved someone?

Probably the other night to my mam, don't think I heard it back. Tear... Haha.

30: Meaning behind your blogger URL?

It's my blog name.

31: Last book you read?

It's been so long since I've finished a book I can't remember. I read a book called confessions of a Tinderella that was hilarious and I would really recommend it! Oh..the last book I have probably read was called Asking for It by Irish author Louise O'Neill. It is quite a heavy going book that will leave you with a heavy heart but very topical and something that needs to be discussed.

32: The book you’re currently reading?

I'm reading About Face by Aisling Mc Dermott at the moment, and fairy tales by Joanne Larby. Nothing too taxing on the mind, but they are both beauty and blog related books.

33: Last show you watched?

Operation Transformation - the whole family are really getting into it this year.

34: Last person you talked to?

My mum to say goodnight.

35: The relationship between you and the person you last texted?

My friend Autumn, we've been in college together the last three years.

36: Favorite food?

O'Donnells sea salt and malt vinegar crisps. They are divine.

37: Place you want to visit?

I'm travelling to Switzerland in March for the first time to spend some time with some old friends and I can't wait!

38: Last place you were?

I was in city centre in Dublin today having a browse around the TopShop near Stephens Green. It is seriously the best one in Dublin anyways. The last place I was abroad was Malta the summer just gone and I would really consider going again, I loved it.

39: Do you have a crush?

Possibly.

40: Last time you kissed someone?

Before Christmas.

41: Last time you were insulted?

I'm easily insulted.

42: Favourite flavour of sweet?

Apple lollies or black currant wine gums.

43: What instruments do you play??

None, I wasn't very musical. I can sing though, or attempt to.

44: favourite piece of jewellery?

I'm loving the gold hoop trend atm. I know people automatically think Chav when they hear hoops but I like them.

45: Last sport you played?

Hockey, I rejoined a club team briefly in the last six months.

46: Last song you sang?

The girl is mine - 99 souls brandy remix...

47: favourite chat up line?

None, they are all too cringy.

48:Have you ever used it?

See above.

49: Last time you hung out with anyone?

In college yesterday I suppose.

50: Who should answer these questions next?

Anyone who wants too! If any blogger does this can you link back to me so I can read your answers, I think it's a great way to get to know people. I hope you enjoyed reading my answers, and that they provided even a little bit of insight into me. If you have any questions of your own feel free to leave a comment below!

GloMinerals & GloTherapeautics Review

I was contacted just before Christmas to trial some skincare and makeup products by American brand GloMinerals and skincare brand Glo Therapeautics. The range I was sent included four products "suited to sensitive/dry skin". I received a cleanser, moisturiser, toner and foundation to try. Out of the four products I can recommend two. I want to focus on the positives in this review but I have to say that although the the cleanser and mosituriser and supposedly aimed at those with dry, sensitive skin it completely sucked any moisture out of my skin and dehydrated my skin after only two uses so I opted to stop using it. It might work for other skin types so I don't want to slate the range as I really enjoyed using the toner and the foundation.

The Calming Flower Mist is a toner containing rose water, neroli oil and bisabolol. It claims to provide instant cooling relief to sensitive, irritated skin. It also contains a blend of soothing essential oils and anti inflammatories designed to calm and hydrate. It smells absolutely gorgeous when you spritz it on your face and makes me think of being in a relaxing spa environment having an expensive facial done.

They recommend you spritz your face after cleaning and then follow with a serum and mosituriser.
I really liked this product and love the Vichy refreshing facial spray as well, I'm a big fan of these types of products.

I was sent out the Glo minerals protective liquid satin finish foundation in the shade natural light to trial. Now it is quite a yellow toned foundation but as someone with pink toned skin I sometimes opt for these shades to conceal the redness.

Above on my hand it looks too dark for my skin but I felt it looked quite well on my face and adjusted to my skin tone. The satin finish was also excellent for my dry skin type. This foundation was long lasting on the skin and felt great. I would recommend this as a great liquid mineral foundation to try out as it really does give fantastic coverage.

I took the above photo while I was wearing the foundation when I was in work at Christmas hence the earrings!

Glo Minerals and Glo Thereapeautics have an Irish distributor and I'm sure if you google the brand you will be able to find stockists and distributors.

Where to Eat Guide to Cork City

I recently spent a few days in the 'real capital' some might argue of Cork city and found a few of the most delightful places to go and eat. For any of you foodies out there please read on as I found definitely a few little diamonds in the rough for you to seek out and enjoy.

First stop was Orso, a tiny little hippy friendly cafe located on Pembroke lane. You won't be able to move much as the space inside is cramped but you also won't be able to move due to the extremely generous pocket friendly portion sizes. We stumbled across this place after a long long day of shopping in the pouring rain and we're happy to sit down, relax, people watch and enjoy some tasty, healthy food.

I was a little bit 'hangry' when we ordered and picked myself the chicken, sweet potato, brown rice dish in a spicy tomato Harissa sauce. It was so tasty, and the portion was huge. I really didn't think I would finish it, but somehow managed!

They have a fabulous selection ranging from some Lebanese, Persian influences to Turkey and cranberry ciabattas and superfood salads. They also had a gorgeous sounding dessert menu is hazelnut and chocolate peanut butter brittle cheesecake and a raspberry and Chocolate brownie, I'm a chocolate fiend - I was too stuffed however to manage a other bite after my meal pictured above. You will be fed for less than €9 a very substantial meal.

That night we headed to Gallaghers bistro which was near the Isaacs hotel where we stayed. A very cosy, welcoming place with brilliant wait staff this was an enjoyable night as the food was delicious and they had live music a kind of jazz funk soul band who were brilliant.

I shared a tapas meat platter, which was actually a tiny bit disapointing for a starter as I love my tapas... These were all deep fried morsels. My main was the saving grace however I had a lemon and garlic pearl couscous with chicken it was so so unbelievably tasty. I also had a lemon cheesecake for dessert which was gorgeous. Suprisingly enough I didn't go for the chocolate lovers dream which would have been a triple chocolate brownie sundae but I think I had more than enough of the cocoa stuff over the holidays.

We stayed in Isaacs hotel which was a really nice central hotel. We also got upgraded to a suite which was gorgeous! The room was huge and done in all greys, whites and neutrals. It was so comfortable with a huge modern bathroom as well.

We didn't opt for a B & B option for our stay instead we decided to go out and find ourselves somewhere nice for a nibble and I stumbled across Tara's Tea Room on Mac curtain street just down down from our hotel.

I immediately fell in love with this place. It is exactly the type of cafe I would love to open if I ever got the chance. It's just so cute and quirky, friendly staff, good choices on the menu and great service.
The place is like a little treasure trove with all their ornaments so I highly recommend a visit even just for their super cute tea cups and saucers and tea pots! Eek! I just love it.

I ordered Eggs Benedict. I can't say I wasn't disapointed that it wasn't served in the traditional way, it was served on toasted batch bread with thick slices of bacon and two poached eggs in slightly cold hollandaise sauce but it was still tasty and I still enjoyed every bit of it! The surroundings more than made up for the slight issue. I will definitely come back if I am in the area again. They do afternoon tea at fifteen euro a person and also have a large lunch menu. Well worth a visit!

If you are in Cork for a few days I recommend popping down Opera Lane where they have River Island, H & M, New Look, Office and other shops all on the one street. I also would say to check out the English Market, it's just a lovely place to go for a look. Cork is great for shopping I have to say and makes a change from Dublin!

Have you been to any of these places or where do you think you would like to try out? Leave a comment below xx

TheBalm Mary Lou Manizer Review

Since I was first introduced to the glorious shimmer of the Mary Lou Manizer highlighter by beauty brand theBalm I have lived by the above quote. This is the one beauty product I have worn that I have gotten a serious amount of compliments about! Whenever I wear this highlighter I am constantly asked what it is and complimented on it so this definitely wins one of my top products of 2015. I work in the beauty & fragrance retail sector so coming from the girls I work with who are always immaculately made up and know their stuff about beauty products is is definitely a one to buy on the beauty wishlist.

My favourite place to use this highlighter is down the bridge of my nose, on my cheekbones, on my chin and my forehead - so basically everywhere! Strobing is being toted as the new contouring and you can see why, it just instantly perfects the skin and makes it look flawless by reflecting the light. No dark shadows here!

It also gives you those much longed for cheekbones, and distracts attention away from that Christmas double chin I've been violently contouring into oblivion!

It's such a fantastic product at a great price point of €20.50 and available on cloud10beauty.com .
TheBalm highlighter also comes in two different shades, a pinky toned highlighter probably more similar to Mac Soft and Gentle as opposed to this champagne hue and a shade to suit more caramel toned ladies. There is something for everyone and since switching to this highlighter from the Holy Grail highlighter for many people Mac Soft and Gentle I can safely say I won't be persuaded back.

You need a light hand to apply this product, you can use your fingers or a fluffy brush to apply to the skin after your foundation and setting powder to give that glow.

What do you think of theBalm Mary Lou Manizer? Will you be purchasing it? Have you tried any of the other theBalm products? I'm always looking for recommendations!
Leave them in the comments below xx
